Consultants and moonlighters are more than welcome to dig into this interesting and unusual work for a new and exciting company that focuses on imaging and document managing solutions worldwide. The firm needs someone skilled in data management and/or facial recognition. Would that be you, by any chance?
The Nitty Gritty
What we want here is for a machine to be able to conduct instantaneous pixel analysis against proprietary libraries, with such variables as color palette, geolocation, facial recognition and object recognition. For a given image, the goal is to be able to determine whether it depicts, say, a wedding, a vacation, or a birthday party. Obviously, for the software to get there, we’re talking about some seriously huge libraries, massive sets of data containing not just millions of images, but millions of data-rich images where those variables are known. The firm needs you to help conceive, construct and maintain that data set. It’ll turn to you for guidance on what data would be valuable and should therefore be gathered. Which information within the raw data is most significant and/or most useful? And your ideas about what could be monetizable will be most welcome.
The idea is that you’d come on board with your ideas and start building, proving your concept over the next several months.
Hired Gun Profile
Most likely you come from an agency and have already done similar work. Maybe you’re still in grad school; that’s okay, too. Ideally, you’ve worked in e-commerce or ad tech. But the main thing, which pretty much goes without saying, is that you live in the world of data and are completely comfortable managing it, manipulating it, and understanding its potential and limitations.
Importantly, you’re the kind of self-starter who’ll own a task and not require constant oversight. Even as a consultant, once you’re on-board with a project, you take pride in it and see it through, realizing that its excellence is your excellence.
It’s certainly a data-centric job, but please sell up any experience you have in advertising technology. Maybe you’ve done work before in which you supported e-commerce or ad tech in a data role, for example. If so, trumpet it.
This is a great telecommuting/cloud gig for a new company bursting with passion and enthusiasm, the kind of situation where opportunity abounds for talented people with a knack for putting themselves in the right place at the right time.
