One of the country’s most respected education-reform organizations is executing a major strategic shift in how it communicates via its digital channels, and to bring this thing off, it needs somebody just like you — somebody, that is, who’s as passionate and knowledgeable about equity in education as about digital marketing and communication, with a broad skillset and a serious leadership bent. Opportunities like this one show themselves but rarely: A chance to play a senior strategic role at an institution that’s bringing about positive change in the world.
Joining the digital marketing senior leadership team, you’ll manage, coordinate, and align the efforts of the group’s web, social and email departments, seeing to it that they’re operating with good strategic sense, dovetailing and complementing instead of overlapping and duplicating, such that the entire body of work is serving the overall organization’s goals. Directly reporting to you will be an MD for each of those three key areas (web, social, email) and supporting the work shall be a host of deadly pros: developers, business analysts, QA managers, social media gurus, web ninjas, email specialists.
On the web side, you’ll make sure that the development work is up to the latest standards and best practices, and you’ll ensure that the institution’s own systems and apps are perfectly integrated with SSO. You’ll be the owner of the development roadmap, you’ll oversee QA and you’ll play a key role in selecting partner agencies for projects. In the world of social, you’ll fill a similar priority-setting role, mapping efforts to organizational strategy. You’ll be the one negotiating contracts and approving new investments in the space. You’ll also make sure the team is using and experimenting with the very latest channels and tools, and constantly gathering data to measure the impact of content. On the email front, again, it’ll all be about aligning action to strategy. There’s also an effort afoot to centralize all email communications into a single system and series of templates– this will be yours to shepherd to a successful conclusion. In this area, too, you’ll see to it that good data is being collected and exploited. And you’ll drive the improvement of the org’s CRM.
That’s your work down in the silos. From a broader, more strategic perspective, you’ll perform as an enthusiastic and ubiquitous advocate for and explainer of the entire digital strategy and all of its elements. And within your world, you’ll be an equally outspoken voice touting the agile/Lean UX environment and best practices in all these areas of tech.
Hired Gun Profile
Hard to believe, maybe, but you’ve been working in digital marketing for more than a decade now, in a series of increasingly strategic roles whereby you can boast of a background in project management, social media strategy or technology — and can boast out of the other side of your mouth about a track record of having developed successful multi-channel strategies for some big and complex organizations. In fact, your experience is sufficiently varied as for you to think of yourself as something of a Swiss army knife — you can talk about marketing segments, social network algos, project management, CRMs, SEO, talent retention and various programming languages, all with equal aplomb. As for the tools of the trade, to say that you know your way around Drupal, Pardot, Radian6, Buffer, Facebook for Business, and Google Analytics is to say that a frog knows its way around a pond.
And your communication ability is the icing on the delicious cake that is you. You write not just clearly or beautifully, but with the kind of skill that allows you to adopt various tones and voices as needed. Your presentation skills are impeccable, and in everyday speech you’re interesting, engaging and humbly persuasive.
For this gig, it’s considered crucial that you demonstrate a true passion for education as a social issue; whatever you’ve done to show that, please be sure to highlight it.
We mean it when we say this is a huge opportunity; taking on a big, meaty strategic role at an organization of such national significance is sure to inject your career with some serious mojo.
