Anyone who has ever showed up at a hotel and thought “this looks nothing like the photos on their website,” knows that the travel industry needs a serious consumer watchdog. Guess what? It exists and is growing in leaps and bounds. To take the brand to the next level, they now need a four-star product manager to be in overall control of the user experience.
Our client is on the hunt for a product manager who can help them improve their overall digital presence, working on the site and helping the company develop mobile apps so people can make travel plans on the go. But no matter what you do, your primary task will be making the user’s experience as smooth as possible. Design, therefore, must be in your blood. “Create intuitive interfaces” must be your mantra.
The gun who wins this position might spend part of their day using Adobe or Balsamiq to work on some new designs, and another part brainstorming strategy and vision. You will also collaborate with engineers to bring your vision to fruition.
Hired Gun Profile
This client is looking for someone who has been in the work force for at least five years, including three years of experience with product management and building consumer products meant for the Web and mobile platforms. You’ll have to be able to straddle both sides of the website development world. One, you’ll have to have the technical skills to code and build the site. Two, you’ll need empathy for the eventual user, who will just want to be able to use the site with as little hassle as possible.
Basically, if you like Apple products and follow what’s happening at IDEO, you might be the gun for the job.
If you want this position, it would be excellent if you preferred to work in small groups or small companies. If you thrive in ginormous organizations with hundreds of employees, this may not be the gig for you.
And having a bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related technical field is a plus.
If you’re interested in travel and technology, and have a passion for digital photography on the side, there may not be a better opportunity for you on the face of the Earth.
