The research montage. Everyone has a favorite. There’s the socio-politically-charged research montages of Erin Brockovich. There’s the spellbinding research montages of Hermione in the Harry Potter series. There’s the spooky, mysterious research montages of 2002 smash hit horror film, The Ring. It’s a cinema staple. But who created the framework? Our client, a Porsche in the Hyundai-ridden sea of product innovation, is looking for a research strategist to help build a new methodology to get insights into consumer behavior. If you’re an experienced researcher who likes building cool stuff, this could be your next stop on the train of destiny.
What exactly does this client do, you may ask? It’s simple, really. They change the world, one product, one name-brand, consumer-facing company at a time. There’s actually a good chance you’ve used one of these products in the recent past. Embedded in their secret sauce is a deep, data-driven connection with their clients’ trajectories and how they relate to consumer behavior. While they’ve typically outsourced the research this requires, they are now looking to bring it in house. That’s where you come in. Working with the client’s Research Director, you will build a research engine fit for a car that goes fast. They’re looking for new ways to approach focus groups, digital surveys and UX tests.
If you’re worried you’re just gonna build something and abandon it, fear not! Not only will you have the opportunity to build the research engine, you’ll also get to do some research yourself. You’ll be taking these consumer insights and building strategies around them. At every step of the process, from pitching the client to executing on product development, you’ll be helping to steer the ship, creating stories from comprehensive data.
