We would never cast aspersions on your current job. It’s served you well; it’s gotten you this far; it’s been good to you. Yet we can’t help but think you’d leave it in a minute if you understood all that this gig has to offer. We’re talking about a very well-known white-glove consultancy, looking for a mature, analytical thinker with deep, industry-leading skills and the gravitas to wield strategic influence with top executives at some super-high-profile client firms. Now, does that or does that not sound attractive?
The Nitty Gritty
You’ll be the lead — or in some cases, sole — digital strategist on a multidisciplinary project team. That means you’ll begin with a thoroughgoing assessment of the business terrain of the client firm — needs, resources, relationships, strategy, operations — and apply your deep expertise about industry trends to make razor-sharp recommendations that are the very best fit for the company. You’ll do this, of course, not as a cubicle-bound cog but as a leader of discussions, an instigator of meetings, an in-the-flesh gatherer of information. No one will understand the ecosystem better than you; couple that fact with your fertile and deeply analytical mind, and no one will have a clearer or better-thought-out roadmap for the future than you. Where the strategy and the business design aren’t in alignment, you’ll offer new models and help develop new requirements to get everything moving in the same direction. You’ll communicate your thoughts and recommendations with your teammates and with the client’s stakeholders on an ongoing basis. In the end, you and your team will have rolled out a solution that is perfectly in keeping with the wisest and best-developed business strategy available.
Hired Gun Profile
Through and through, you’ve got the consulting mindset: An abiding curiosity about strategies, workflows and systems; a quick learning curve regarding same; a delight in finding solutions to complex problems; a knack for turning abstract understanding into concrete actions; and the interpersonal skills to make yourself at home, in short order, in previously unfamiliar corporate territory. Your understanding of enterprise systems and environments is, it should go without saying, stellar, and backed by a thoroughly up-to-date familiarity with various organizational models.
Maybe you were always this way, or maybe your seven-plus years at a major consultancy have brought it out in you, but you’re exceptionally adaptable, open-minded, and possessed of sound judgment. And not only do you “get along” with colleagues the way some dogs get along with some cats; you can’t imagine delivering your best work without having a trusted team to help you develop your ideas.
Sheer talent or sheer potential won’t quite suffice; hit us with some actual case studies demonstrating your experience with major digital transformations, organizational change, and/or transformational projects that reached deep into realms beyond the enterprise system (Talent, HRM, ERM, etc.).
Yeah, yeah — we know your job’s been good to you. But a chance to flex your muscle, with this caliber of clients, at this caliber of a firm, doing the work you were born to do? C’mon, apply — you know you want to.
