This household name in the consumer media space is undergoing a change in its ownership structure and needs a talented accountant to shepherd the migration of its general ledger from one entity to the other – and then to march forth leading the accounting function on an ongoing basis. Reporting directly into the CFO and handling a pipeline combining special-project and business-as-usual flavors, this is a most enticing opportunity for a seasoned and skilled accounting pro.
The Nitty Gritty
As just stated, the first order of business will be moving the general ledger away from the former parent company and onto a standalone platform (NetSuite). To do this, you’ll of course need to work with internal finance staff and NetSuite consultants. Next, you’ll lay the groundwork and infrastructure for the accounting function going forward by establishing the company’s chart-of-accounts, internal controls and accounting policies and procedures.
Once the new system is in place, you’ll assume management of all of the company’s day-to-day accounting operations, including oversight of treasury, billing, collections and accounts payable, and with responsibility for monthly and quarterly close cycles. You’ll manage the general ledger, generating and booking all of its entries in accordance with GAAP. You’ll deliver accurate and timely financial reporting to the management and ownership. You’ll provide variance analysis versus budgets and forecasts. You’ll execute tax filing and handle the annual audit process, and you’ll serve as a go-to assist for the CFO in financial planning, budgeting and forecasting.
Hired Gun Profile
You’re now a good ways into a well-rounded accounting career, with technical and operational experience on special projects and financial accounting. You’re intimately familiar with US GAAP and FASB standards, and can point proudly to numerous instances of your having implemented best practices at large organizations. As for the tools of your trade, NetSuite and Excel are old-hat, and you might even know a thing or two about Concur.
Personality-wise, you’ve got real leadership talent. You don’t stand around waiting to be told what to do; you see a problem or need and move quickly to apply the very best solution. Those working above and beneath you appreciate your fairness, your high ethical standards, and your ability to communicate clearly. You’re highly organized, with exceptional attention to detail.
Be sure to mention any experience and/or insights you have with regard to your work with media companies.
If you’re in the seven-to-10-year range of a successful accounting career and have your eye on a CFO role in the not-too-distant future, this gig is a gem of an opportunity for displaying your prowess.
