Our client, a true pioneer in delivering weather-related stories through television, internet, social and mobile platforms, is seeking an editor who is equal parts hardcore weather nut and hardcore social media maven. You will be one of several new hires meant to reinvigorate an already dynamic team producing tasty news editorial — yours, of course, will be the social media realm.
Your primary responsibility will be generating content for the brand’s Facebook page, but you’ll also help shape and grow a new series of e-newsletters. On the social media front, you’ll be using web analytics and SEO best practices to create, maintain and expand an active audience through alluring content marked by headlines that no sane person could scroll past. As you might expect in the fast-moving world of social media, this position will require the nimbleness of Jack B. himself, as you quickly create, write and aggregate content, pitch and produce stories for platform-specific audiences, and respond to breaking news. The content will range from cute to acute, calling on a truly versatile set of storytelling skills undergirded by a solid understanding of weather and science.
Hired Gun Profile
You’ve put in a few years now in an editorial role, preferably in a breaking-news environment, and even more preferably in the meteorology field. During that time, you’ve sharpened your writing and editing skills and have become more than comfortable with various content management systems, with web analytics, with Photoshop, and with all things social-media. You’re happy working as part of a team that has quick-response in its DNA, and you’re a master at juggling simultaneous efforts. Perhaps most importantly, you have a deep, intuitive, proven understanding of how to build a loyal audience on social media, and you just know that you can deliver the content that will make your outfit the go-to place for weather stories.
Audience analysis and metrics are good and important here, but this client is very much interested in finding a top-notch writer/editor, someone with truly first-rate online storytelling techniques who can make content engaging to audiences through compelling combinations of words and visuals. If you’ve got that, get ready to sell it.
This is a fantastic opportunity to use your narrative skills to reach a national audience, filling an important editorial role at a real powerhouse in the field
