The Hired Guns are seeking a super-talented Digital Strategist who loves building delightful customer experiences and is ready to jump on board with our client, a digital agency specializing in website optimization. This agency, which sits at the intersection of marketing, data analysis, technology and design, has a remarkable track record working with some of the world’s largest and most interesting businesses, from online retailers to media and entertainment companies. And they need someone just like you, a driven soul who instinctively critiques every web experience you come across and dreams up ways to improve them.
We see this as an equal opportunity gig, meaning we believe there are many kinds of work experience that could make for the perfect digital strategist at this company. People currently working as digital strategists at top agencies would obviously make a fantastic fit, but we’d be just as happy to hear from a user experience pro or digital product manager at a media or e-commerce site who thinks they could rock out for us. Seriously, if you think this job sounds like something you could excel at, definitely apply; just be sure to make a convincing argument about how you’ve positively affected traffic and conversion growth at a top site in your most recent job.
So while there are a number of ways you may have earned your stripes as a website wunderkind, you always base your strategy on reality, not just your gut, and you know that the data tells a story. Tell us about your experience using cutting-edge A/B and multivariate testing tools to optimize heavily trafficked sites that require some sort of customer conversion (credit card, newsletter subscription, etc.). You still have to “heart” the wireframe process, because at this company, the Digital Strategists map the ideas out themselves, then work with a team of marketers, designers and developers to bring them to fruition.
You need to have excellent bedside manner when it comes to clients, adore user-centered design, and hold strong opinions about digital business, user experience, branding and design.
At this company, the Digital Strategists operate like high-level consultants. You’ll own the relationships with your clients and think big picture with them. But you won’t just float out lofty ideas that get dusty in PowerPoint decks — you’ll hunker down and get your hands dirty actually building things that have a measurable impact on the ROI of the world’s top companies.
Here’s “A Day in the Life” [apologies to the Fab Four]: “Wake up, fall outta bed, drag a comb across your head, take your clients’ site traffic to a whole new level.” Each day, you will speak to the clients about business goals, dive into the analytics to gain insight into their customers’ needs, work with your team on strategies for fulfilling those needs, then bring the strategies to life. Actively measuring and testing the executions will bring it all full circle.
Take note: the “my way or the highway” approach to digital strategy doesn’t cut it at this company. While you will work as the lead strategist on the clients you are assigned, this group is highly collaborative, and they are successful because everyone learns from one another and is incredibly devoted to achieving quantum leaps in client site performance.
Be aware: every person who has landed a job at this agency has had to undergo a digital strategy challenge and present to a group as part of the interview process. So get set to blow them away.
Can’t decide whether to do your thing in a large or a small company? In this role, you’ll get the best of both worlds as you enjoy the dynamic creative atmosphere and career opportunities of a start-up that’s growing like crazy, plus the security of being within a large established company with a great brand.
