This gig is exclusively for the kind of person who believes that bigger is not necessarily better. Also the kind of person who loves HR for the “H” part of the acronym, someone who loves to be surrounded by interesting, talented people. The role promises lots of variety in terms of the work, and lots of exposure to the behind-the-scenes processes that go into making great television. If you are looking for something beyond your typical company and your typical HR gig, this is what you’ve been waiting for.
Nitty Gritty
You’d be handling a broad set of human resources functions for a small production office that happens to make very good, very widely watched, television. The three big recurring tasks will be: using ADP to handle payroll on two schedules (biweekly or monthly), depending on employee type; managing delivery of benefits (transit checks, 401(k) and so on); and providing monthly union reporting and audits. You’ll also handle some long-term products such as developing an Applicant Tracking System for talent recruitment, in which you’ll play an occasional but major role. And you’ll take care of some fairly light office-management duties such as seating and scheduling.
Hired Gun Profile
You’ve put in two to four years in a small to mid-sized office in which you handled similar duties to those described above (You’re adept at ADP, for example, and HRIS apps). Not only are you well aware that small offices mean the wearing of many hats, but you like it that way; you thrive on the looseness and variety of flat, lean organizations. You’re diligent and extremely organized, and would likely be described by colleagues as the most reliable employee in the company. You absolutely love people. You have great personal warmth and an ability to find common ground with and relate to just about anybody. You’re intellectually curious. You feed off the energy of talented people doing what they do best, and reflect that energy back to them, which ups their game.
Inside Skinny
