A global media powerhouse is looking for a hard working up-and-comer to be their next Manager of Business Development. In this role you’ll identify and manage strategic partnerships to power this rapidly growing set of digital properties. If you have aspirations to be the Digital GM or President of a Media organization someday, this is the job for you.
This media player has a variety of properties ranging from all news content – from celeb and pop culture to humor and video and they are on a growth tear. Part strategist, part tactician, your first order of business is going to be to work with the heads of this very flat organization to set short-term and long-term goals for each of these entities and then get to work. You’ll evaluate their current deal structures and ensure that they you’re getting (and giving) according to the plan put in place. So your first few months will be all about hunkering down, taking meetings, and following up like crazy.
As you gain trust and spread your wings, you’ll then move deeper into each property. You will be figuring out their needs from a traffic, content, distribution and a technology perspective all while keeping your eye on emerging trends in the space. You’ll prioritize and negotiate as you go.
Success in this role is to make this brand not only be seen as the preeminent one for breaking news but to make them be seen as product innovators, revenue generators and audience expanders.
Hired Gun Profile
You’re a builder, first and foremost—a builder of revenue streams and new business opportunities. The partnerships you’ve created have exceeded everyone’s wildest imaginations and that’s just scratching the surface. This is a role for an up-and-comer who has the capacity to think at a high corporate strategic level. You will be bringing ideas, taking marching orders and then drilling down into the weeds and manhandling the right deals until they get done. This is about match-making corporate interests, aligning goals and striking the right partnerships.
Individuals who’ve worked at Incubators, Accelerators, Private Equity Firms, in Tech M&A or in B/D at a media or tech org are all potential contenders for this role. We’re also open to finance managers and operators who work in and around the media scene.
You’re not only a personable dealmaker but you must also be highly numerate and analytical — evaluating and then going after deals you source. An MBA while not required, will certainly come in handy. You see the trends that are coming around the corner, as well as the ones appearing over the horizon. All of this comes together to give you a serious competitive edge when it comes to creating new partnership opportunities.
THIS. IS. NOT. A. SALES. ROLE. We say that because every time we post a Business Development gig, anyone who has worked in media sales applies. Experience in Content Partnership development, Mobile and Video a plus!
This gig is a chance to create massive expansion for a brand that’s recognized worldwide, while also being key to launching a new branch’s massive growth.
