The Hired Guns are seeking a Managing Director of Technology for our client, a digital brand agency specializing in large-scale, complex B2B site builds for businesses across a wide variety of sectors. The sky’s the limit at this “set up for success” opportunity where firm partnership is most definitely an option for the hire who performs amazing work.
This agency specializes in creating brand identities, and the folks who work here are electrified to be part of a team dedicated to smart thinking and stand-out work. They dig in and do what it takes to fuel the creative process from start to finish.
The Managing Director of Technology is a sherpa on the steep slopes of technological innovation. You’ll either find a media pathway or make one. That means finding nimble, accessible tech solutions for the team at large, and pricing with clients accordingly. But hey, you wouldn’t be a tech lead if you didn’t love economy and efficiency. Speaking of which, you’ll get to build your own team here, so you can assemble your dream candidates into the Avengers of ROI.
Best of all, you’re going to have a seat at the table right off the bat. You’ll serve as the medium between the IT team and the client, introducing the latter to exciting new products and services. Doing that will require diverse and deep knowledge of GraphQL, test-driven development — including framework-testing — serverless architectures, and marketing automation software.
What Success Looks Like

Hired Gun Profile
You’re a veteran of high-tech hunter/gatherer teams, and you find or make whatever you need to achieve spectacular new effects. Leadership and agency experience (marketing, PR, etc.) are both required, ideally in the same stint. Sorry, in-house-only types, but a history handling high-demand clients who can’t be disappointed is essential.
Let’s talk tech: you’ve memorized every line of code underlying open-source relational databases, you make PHP web frameworks for fun during lunch, and you’ve apologized before for getting a little too heated while debating version-control systems. You believe whatever the workload, there’s an API for that.
But you don’t bury your nose in code so deeply that you neglect your personal skills. Social and professional communication skills are what make the MD a tech leader, and you’ve got the writing ability to extend them to your many internal communications documents. You consider inspiration essential to any software development model — all of which you flex on, but especially scrum (or a similar agile approach), as well as waterfall.
You’re going to excel at this role if you’re a tech wizard who’s into person-centered UI and people-centered leadership.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an accomplished tech team leader who’s ready to create their masterwork. You’ll have every resource to realize the coolest ideas you’ve ever had, earning your due as a partner while simultaneously working with the best people in your field. Not a bad setup.
