This Hired Guns are looking for an Agile-oriented Product Development Director with top chops working at heavily trafficked media sites. The client you will be working with is not a media or content site … yet. But with your drive and ambition, it will become a top destination for thought leadership on the level of the Harvard Business Review, The Economist, and TED.
As a digital strategist and product manager, you have a decade-plus track record of building impressive digital experiences for content-forward companies. Your expertise melds together forward-thinking digital strategy, prescient product management and innovative technical direction. While you’ve spent time building products and applications for large, multinational brands and demonstrated sensitivity to brand attributes and corporate marketing goals, it’s actually your ability to turn these companies into prolific content creators that sets you apart.
You’ve also got expert-level knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies ranging from social networking and blog platforms to widget development, mobile and emerging digital interfaces. You can hold your own doing tech talk and know the pros and cons of developing across everything from .NET and PHP to Ajax and Ruby on Rails. You’ve successfully done in-house development and managed outside digital agencies. You are solutions-oriented, understand business drivers and are the ultimate coalition builder.
This is a change-agent job. The very nature of how content is created, edited, and deployed at this company will be shifting under your strategic guidance. As the Product Director, your job is to take this consulting firm and turn them into a Web 2.0 publisher, best practices and all. Suffice it to say, this is your chance to be the hero and take everything you’ve learned about creating a compelling 24-7 news property and bring it to a Fortune 500 player.
In this role, you’ll be developing websites (both public and private), CRM solutions, social media applications and mobile applications, partnering with your publishing and communications colleagues to define and design a bevy of new products. Then you’ll develop detailed requirements and specifications, determine the most effective implementation plan, and closely manage its execution. You will be responsible for ensuring that each product and application meets the highest technical standards and enhances the company’s reputation and reach.
This is a highly collaborative role, and throughout the product life cycle you can expect to work alongside team members from digital communications, design, branding, IT, internal stakeholders and content creators. With all that complex cross-functional interaction, it’s crucial you can document and communicate project statuses to stakeholders consistently and effectively.
This is a low-structure, non-hierarchical environment. No needy Guns, please.
You’ve got an up-to-the-minute understanding of market trends, a keen interest in emerging technologies and an ability to weed out the game-changers from the also-rans. These guys will appreciate that.
