We don’t know much about love, or Aristotelian aesthetics, or laying bathroom tile. But friend, we know a few things about project management and project management gigs. Thus we know a good one when we see one, and this is a good one. It’s nicely high-profile and high-visibility at a company in a serious growth phase, and it’ll have you interacting with people all throughout (and without) the organization. It’s at once strategic and highly practical. It’ll call on both your analytical skills and your way with people. The job? Ensuring timely and on-budget delivery of business solutions within the media-buying area of this out-there-and-crushing-it marketing juggernaut.
You’ll be responsible for leading the integration and implementation of software solutions; conducting business process reviews and gap analyses; helping to build out the business solutions function from a strategic and planning point of view; and playing a significant role in optimizing the media supply chain architecture. Within that broad remit, there’ll be nuts and bolts a-plenty: defining timelines, obtaining approvals, developing RACI matrixes, securing resources, creating work-breakdown structures, leading on needs assessments, executing testing, producing documentation, delivering status reports, and handling change management and risk mitigation. As you can tell, we’re talking about real, meaningful leadership here, the kind where you’re counted on to establish and formalize an approach to the work, where you’re expected to nurture a team environment. Along similar lines, you’ll be looked to as the kind of senior person who’s naturally trusted to manage relationships with internal clients, with vendors, with teammates and with colleagues in far-flung corners of this matrixed organization.
Hired Gun Profile
You are a seasoned project manager, working on complex teams implementing solutions and managing project portfolios (maybe even with a PMP certification to boast of). A goodly chunk of those seven years will have been spent in the worlds of media, software, and/or advertising, such that you know your way around media planning and buying, and the processes and tools involved in billing and payment. Speaking of tools, you’re ultra-comfortable with project-management stuff like Jira, Microsoft Project and Smartsheets.
But you’re not just a wonk. You’ve got a strong, confident personality; you’re eager to take ownership of a project, to jump in and get work done, to lead and delegate, and to learn new things along the way. You communicate clearly and engagingly, whether that’s delivering a presentation to senior execs, rallying a small team, or hashing out a puzzler in a tete-a-tete with a trusted colleague. People tend to try harder – and enjoy themselves more – when they work on your team.
This gig is based in NYC in a flexible working environment.
We’ll humbly decline from commenting on chainsaw carving or aeronautics, but when it comes to this gig we’ll say it loud and clear: It’s a true gem that will elevate your career and give you a platform to put everything you’ve been working on into fruitful practice.
