The Hired Guns are seeking a Research Manager for a contract-to-perm gig with a large-scale wellness organization dedicated to maximizing people’s work productivity by minimizing stress and burnout. If you’re suffering through a job that thinks sleep is a luxury and mindfulness a luxury only for top brass, here’s a place that finally understands the importance of rest and recovery in order to get all employees to do their best work. It’s not just their philosophy, it’s their business!
Nitty Gritty
CEOs and CHROs hire this content-oriented tech-meets-consulting company to re-train their leaders and employees using self-improvement strategies supported by technology to live a better life and ultimately perform at their peak. Think of it as a modern benefit that helps both the employee and company work better.
This company is already working with the top CEOs of many of the Best Companies to Work For, providing individualized apps for employees that enhance their personal wellness in areas such as sleep, stress management, and the like. As the research manager, you’ll be key to new client onboarding, as you’ll be tasked with doing the initial corporate health assessment — from designing custom qualitative and quantitative research to running surveys and collecting and analyzing the results. You’ll also be charged with delivering ongoing recommendations for improvement within the customer’s organization after implementation.
What Success Looks Like
You’ll not only build custom surveys, but also work to create repeatable processes out of your research methodologies. You’ll know you’re actually making a difference when you see the KPIs of the organization and its employees drastically improve based on your insights and recommendations!
Hired Gun Profile
You’ve chalked up serious survey design skills at some of the top research agencies. But it’s your interpretation and ability to distill creative and important insights from primary research data that make you exceptional for this role. You’re both a qual and quant at heart. A lot of this research comes in the form of soft data, so you’re good at finding the substance in the slipperiness of the “in between.”
When it comes to survey software, you’re comfortable in most programs. But our client is most interested in candidates who are well versed in Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, Questback, Survey Gizmo, Google Forms and Survana. (We made up that last one to see if you were still reading … congratulations on catching it!) Of great importance is that Pivot Tables in Excel are your best friend. And we’d also love to know your capabilities in R, SAS, SPSS and SQL.
Business Analysis and data-viz chops will definitely come in handy, as one of your biggest challenges will be to define, design, and iterate an enterprise-level dashboard that will present survey results, analysis, and recommendations in clear terms to company leaders and the workforce at large.
Candidates with research-intensive undergrad and master’s programs in Psychology, Behavioral Economics, or similar fields will quickly get to the top of the list — especially if you have an Org Dev focus. Aside from that, if you’re deeply passionate about how to create thriving workplaces and the future of work, this role will suit you nicely.
Inside Skinny
In terms of level, we are open to someone who is a fairly recent research manager or a research analyst who’s ready to step up into a managerial role. Take note, our client is still hiring your future boss (the VP of Research), and there is a high likelihood that you’ll be installed before they are — so you have to be able to “punch above paygrade” in this highly visible role.
Net-Net
Increase your own job satisfaction by doing so for others! It’s a great crucible for someone no longer wet behind the ears but still looking to prove their chops in a real-world environment, while tangibly improving the well-being of a large number of people.
