The Hired Guns are seeking a Senior Digital Writer-Editor whose dossier includes three or more years of experience writing or editing in some sphere of the health or medical space. You’ll be joining the close-knit, well-organized content creation team of a leading hospital system that is widely hailed as an innovator in digital content. We’re looking for a talented digital content pro who has strong leadership skills and a desire to expand their responsibilities over time and grow in their career.
The Nitty Gritty
The backstory on the organization and why they need to hire you!
Over the past five years, this prestigious hospital system has completely revamped and revolutionized their digital presence to become a trend-setter in comprehensiveness, ease of use, and cutting-edge tools for their patients, medical professionals, researchers, medical students, and other audiences. They have evolved into a rhythm of continuous improvement, which means the innovation wheels never stop turning here, and they need a special breed of content creator who’s as much reporter and marketer as copywriter and researcher.
If that doesn’t sound challenging enough, remember that this is no stodgy, static organization: they’re at the leading edge of biomedical research, medical education, and care innovation. That means lots of exciting stuff to write about, but it also means that there are lots of important stakeholders in the mix — clinicians, scientists, academic leadership, senior management, the donor community — and a big part of the job is meeting, planning, interviewing … and, of course, writing.
How you’ll know if you’re a fit…
You have a great shot at joining this team if you bring an impressive track record of writing and editing digital content (websites, e-newsletters, apps, social media), including at least three years’ editorial experience at a hospital, academic medical center, healthcare organization, digital agency, or science-focused media outlet. You’re highly organized and able to function effectively within a well-established process, but you’re also always on the lookout for better ways to do things and are effective in proposing and implementing your ideas. An ability to distill complex medical scenarios into engaging patient-facing copy is a must. It’s a plus if you have a medical specialty you’ve become a subject-matter expert in: let us know about it!
Many kinds of experience could be valuable here, but some journalism background is a big plus: a major part of this job is going out and “getting the story” by interacting with people on the front lines of research and patient care. An outgoing and confident attitude is a must-have, as is the ability to perform optimally in a fast-paced environment and cheerfully roll with it when priorities suddenly change.
Finally, you have a solid understanding of web content organization and navigation as well as SEO. And you have ambitions to manage people and grow your career in the direction of editorial leadership.
The Inside Skinny
Why you should quit your job right now and join this organization!
Because you’re looking for new challenges in your editorial career. Because you’d enjoy working in a highly collaborative team that’s doing some of the best work in the healthcare space. Because you want your medical writing and editing skills to have a meaningful impact on patient care and the advancement of medical knowledge. Because the benefits offered by this institution are little short of miraculous!
