The Hired Guns are seeking a Senior Director of Corporate Communications to lead strategy and media relations for the B2B division of a major online media company. We need a straight-shooting, hard-charging PR vet who understands the tech start-up mentality, M&A, and B2B public relations in the online media space.
Web infrastructure plays, publishing platforms, ad networks — you know, the things that actually make money on the Internet — these are the parts of the digital universe that get your heart pounding. And it’s all B2B, baby … just like you.
With your significant and varied experience in the world of PR, corporate communications, and media relations, you have an unparalleled understanding of how to create news — in particular for tech plays. You’ve got impressive experience leading communications strategy and execution for technology organizations and digital media companies. You have a robust Rolodex of B2B media contacts ranging from CNBC, AdAge, Mashable and Business Insider to Min and Publisher’s Weekly.
You’ve worked closely with the CEOs of technology start-ups, and you know how to operate effectively in complex, highly matrixed organizations through your unique brand of diplomatic savvy. Client-side experience is necessary, but it doesn’t have to be recent — if you’re coming out of a PR agency, you’ll do great.
Here’s the straight dope: this company is in a turnaround, so you’ve got to love problem-solving and a big fat challenge if you’re going to take this on. Comms is an integral part of the turnaround strategy for the B2B division, which is comprised of a number of newly acquired companies. It’s all up to you to integrate the positioning and messaging of these companies, working closely with each company’s CEO.
Take note: this isn’t a “dialing-for-dollars” PR gig. We need a highly strategic diplomat to come in and take charge. You will need to establish an effective overarching divisional strategy right off the bat, and then nail the thought-leadership strategy for the players on the executive team. As the B2B division’s senior strategist, your focus will be on building the group’s brand and driving divisional goals like investor relations, biz dev, ad sales, and more. Day-to-day you’ll work closely with senior-level executives on messaging, speaking opportunities, media requests, and internal communications.
As part of the broader communications team, you will focus on communicating holistic company messaging, which takes all of their many significant offerings into account. Your ability to think creatively, approach communications from new angles, and manage both up and down the organization will be vital to your success here.
Blow us away with your successes in elevating the brands of the companies and the people you work with, and this gig will be yours.
Do this right, and the head corporate comms post at any technology company on the Fortune 500 list will be the next job you score after this one.
