One of the biggest names in digital media is on the verge of launching a disruptive new brand, and they need the help of a Product Technology leader to help them get there. This is a great role for someone who’s ready to move from an execution role to a strategy role, but can literally architect for success and are still comfortable and capable in execution. If you’re ready to step up and get a seat the table with a brand that everyone will be talking about by this time next year, read on.
You’ve got deep experience in web services, especially within media or publishing. You’ve been successful at driving the technology decisions of your departments, and have considerable experience in outsourcing everything that you possibly can. Some of your experience might have been on the enterprise side, but your real wins have come from consumer-facing digital products and services. You excel in a highly entrepreneurial team but you know how to navigate a large, matrixed environment around you with grace and aplomb.
You understand the cloud and you have plenty of ideas about how to use it in inventive ways. You’re also experienced with all phases of the product development lifecycle, and not just the fun parts. You know it entails more than design and implementation, and you’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves and get involved with the debugging, validation, and verification aspects. You’ve done dev and deployment using HTML5, AJAX, JAVA, OBJ-c, or one of the other major names that complete that list. If you know Ruby on Rails or other open source frameworks, that’s a plus, too.
This is a soon-to-launch brand, and as such, they’re moving fast. They’re going to expect the same from you. You’re going to need an always-on, start-up mentality to make it work here. They’re going to iterate early and often, and you’ll be a linchpin in that process. You’ll be overseeing both the strategic and tactical directions of technology decisions as they prepare to a launch a new brand over multiple platforms. You’ll spend a lot of time in the sandbox with Product, Business Management, Content Production and other stakeholders to make sure that the ball moves forward. You’ll also be managing external partnerships, outsourcing whatever can be outsourced, and owning the architecture, approach, and development of core technology that will help this brand thrive.
This venture has a certain degree of autonomy within their parent organization. They’re aggressive, entrepreneurial, and not interested in moving slowly. To land this role, be prepared to discuss how you’ve thrived in a similar environment, making Product Technology decisions in the heat of battle and coming away victorious. If there’s a moment on your resume where you helped push something amazing out the door quickly while keeping an array of stakeholders happy, this might be the gig for you.
This is one of those “I was there when…” gigs. This is going to be a big name down the road, and this is your chance to land a seat at the table. If you’re a Product Technology Director looking for the next step up and have the bona fides to back it up, let us hear from you ASAP.
