“Oh, nothin.’ Just sittin’ here thinkin’ about the consumer experience.” All right, so maybe you’ve never actually said those words, but the truth is that it’s not unusual for you to meditate at length on what users want and need from a digital experience. And you’ve made a pretty good living up to now by figuring out new and better ways of meeting those needs. Well, here’s your chance to take it to the next level: by heading up an agile team that runs the core digital properties of a celebrated and long-lived media organization that’s poised to reinvent itself for the digital age. Sound exciting? We figured you’d think so. Read on.
Nitty Gritty
First order of business: you and your team will be redesigning the company’s main port of entry for its consumers, pulling out all the stops to create an experience that delivers on the very latest technology and thinking that go into reaching (and growing) audiences with news and information. This of course will be driven by metrics and UX-inspired. Ideating and iterating along, you’ll push through to a fresh, exciting experience that pulls in text, audio, video and interactive features.
Moving on from there, the whole function shall be yours: assess the competitive environment, help define the product strategy/roadmap, drive the product discovery process, identify the key requirements and form product hypotheses, build wireframes, iterate, get to an MVP, gather feedback, launch, add new features, monitor the data. Throughout, and constantly, you’ll collaborate with engineers, UX pros, project managers and QA teams, and you’ll provide regular updates on progress toward KPIs.
Hired Gun Profile
This ain’t your first picnic. For years now, you’ve been proving yourself, conceiving and building out digital products (including mobile) in an agile environment. You’ve shown leadership — not just an ability to keep the trains running on time, but a flair for inspiring collaboration and innovation. You’ve got a knack for welcoming input from all quarters while building consensus around the best ideas. All of this is guided by that nice healthy obsession with user experience, which expresses itself both through gut empathy and through careful study of data and analytics.
You have an accessible and engaging presentation style and, whether writing or speaking, rarely leave doubt as to your meaning. You’re intellectually curious, mature, and driven.
