The Hired Guns are looking for a product-forward Rails Engineer to join and serve as Lead Software Engineer on the team of a popular digital music platform designed to help artists distribute their music, raise their visibility and engage with fans more directly.
Success Looks Like This
One year in, you’re driving the evolution of the company’s music distribution platform. You’ve grown as a collaborator and communicator, and are intimately familiar with the company’s products and processes.
Nitty Gritty
Musicians already love and are using the product. But the CTO knows that the consumer experience can be elevated. As the Lead Software Engineer, you will guide a small engineering team working to take the product to best-in-class levels. You will interact with internal stakeholders, product managers as part of requirement gathering and issue diagnosis, so presentation and collaboration skills are vital. This organization is moving to a system of project-based agile teams focused on delivering web applications for both customers and internal operations. You will be the engineering arm of one of these teams, which include QA, Product and DevOps, and pivot to different teams as projects wrap and new projects begin. You will be building in a Ruby On Rails environment, creating things like consumer-facing ecommerce applications and internal APIs.
Hired Gun Profile
For the Lead Engineering role at this client, you need to have significant Ruby on Rails experience because you’re going to be supervising other engineers who are super smart but who will be less well versed in the language than you. Ideally, you’ve spent the last five years in agile environments at a consumer-facing company and you have a great working knowledge of AWS, MySQL and React. The client would love someone who is passionate about building great consumer products, and gets excited about new possibilities. This team is doing new and exciting things with their technology, and moving their products in directions that their competitors are not.
Inside Skinny
The company attracts life-long learners, including technical folk who’ve have come up the ladder in other disciplines, but have sought out the training to become Rails ninjas. This team appreciates people who are passionate about software and music. You’ll get a lot of bonus points if you’re involved in the dev community (and play an instrument).
Net-Net
This is a great role for someone looking to advance their engineering career in an environment that supports creativity and innovation.
