The company gets a lot of its work done via agency, so first you need to picture yourself heading up the SEO function over both internal and external teams – both on the editorial and technical sides – only some of whom are currently well-versed in SEO. That means doing a bit of preaching, of course – preaching and teaching to get the whole outfit pointed in the proper direction.
You’ll oversee the teams’ use of Conductor and will work with the analytics folks to ensure that SEO analytics are accurately reflecting existing traffic. You’ll frequently sit down with members of the editorial team to strategize about SEO tactics and discuss how to optimize the content that’s being created for SEO purposes. Although you aren’t expected to be a bona fide writer/editor, you’ll certainly weigh in on titles and subtitles from an SEO point of view. And once content is up and running, you’ll audit it to be sure it’s rolling out optimally, without gaps.
Besides content and product, there’ll also be a marketing component to your work: you’ll collaborate with those folks on aligning your SEO efforts with their SEM efforts, and make sure that inbound linking strategies are optimized.

You’re an established acquisition maven with the chops to drive the right traffic to the site on time and under budget. You can navigate all the tools and platforms in your sleep and have your finger on the pulse of the digital landscape. You don’t need a lot of direction or input to execute first-class SEO, but you’re always happy to collaborate. You have killer communication and presentation skills and can seamlessly juggle a variety of projects, deadlines and personalities.
