The Hired Guns are seeking an entry-level Social Media Coordinator for one of the biggest names in your medicine cabinet. You’ll be joining their brand journalism lab in a contract role (which could go full time, if you play your cards right). If you studied Journalism or Mass Communications in college and are looking for a high-intensity newsroom vibe, this could be it.
Nitty Gritty
If you’re self-motivated and know your way around a newsroom (even if it was your college newspaper), you’ll be perfect for this gig. It is hands-on content production and distribution via the website and other social feeds, including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. You’ll also traffic the workflow of the social feeds. You’ll liaise with Editorial and Communications leadership to strategize audience growth and development, and create new content structured around breaking news and tentpole initiatives — all with a humanistic angle.
Adapting stories to fit each social platform, you’ll bring users through the engagement funnel and drive repeat views, return users, and trigger engagements through various activations.
That said, you need to also be ready to act as an all-around editorial assistant. That means organized, up for scut-work, and down for the unexpected. The good news is that you’ll learn the ins and outs of branded content from some of the best people in the business.
What Success Looks Like
Eager, organized, sharp. These are three adjectives you want everyone saying about you after your first 2 weeks on the job. And you want your boss saying, “I can’t believe how much more work we’re pushing out the door since [INSERT YOU] arrived.
Hired Gun Profile
Detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple projects at once. Check. A joy to work with? Check. Fresh from an internship in media or journalism? Check. Hands-on experience driving Social Media at a digital publisher? Gold Star.
You’ve got experience with different varieties of CMS and image-editing software. Faced with unfamiliar new software, you always have a knack for figuring it out. Your work always looks professional, and copyediting and proofreading are in your DNA.
Inside Skinny
If you’re interested in Health and Wellness, this gig should pique your interest. You’ll be adding a Fortune 100 brand to your resume, which will give you THE bona fides to open the right doors down the line and land the “job after the job”.
If you’ve held leadership posts at your college newspaper, be sure to dial that up on your resume. Our client is looking for that, as well as high-sparkle internships and entry-level jobs. Your soon-to-be boss was just like you once, and is looking to help you up the ladder.
