The Hired Guns are seeking a Software Engineering Manager to provide strong and nimble leadership to the development team at a rapidly growing content platform for healthcare providers.
The Nitty Gritty
The backstory on the organization and why they need to hire you!
This company has an audience of specialized medical professionals who need to keep their skills on the cutting edge. They’re expanding at a remarkable rate and getting ready to scale, so they need a Software Engineering Manager who can keep up with growth.
This is a managerial role, overseeing five engineers and two QA experts in an agile dev system for an upcoming relaunch. You’ll take full ownership of systems architecture, and you’ll design unit, functional, and end-to-end tests with both Product and UX needs in mind.
The company currently builds front-end web apps using React and GraphQL, and content is managed with high-end software including Contentful and Headless. Get ready to flex your SQL and RDBMS muscles behind the scenes. If you can pull all that off, both individual and departmental quarterly performance bonuses await you.
The Quest
What success looks like in your first year…
You’ll be creating numerous apps, so you can’t miss a single deadline. That means real team management: you need to unify your team members while also trusting their individual strengths. You’ll build them up to work lean, light, and fast, while keeping them firmly on course to realize the vision.
Why You?
How you’ll know if you’re a fit…
You’re a veteran dev of user-facing web apps with some product management already under your belt. You’ve worked at an ad-sponsored content provider in the past. Full-stack is key, but a tight focus on front-end apps with massive CMS architecture backstage will get you a second interview.
Server-side web development experience is a must. You’re always learning the new tools as they come out, and you’ll be right there in the trenches with your team, executing the plan for the next year with deep focus work. No need to bring a disruptive vision to this gig. You’re a doer and a planner, not a dreamer or schemer.
The truth is, you’ve done it all from coding the backend to scripting the front. You make great web apps, you work fast and effectively, and you know how to teach others to do the same. You’re a practical, reliable performer who always achieves the mission objective.
This gig is more concerned with your softer skills than with a long resume of management; a high EQ is a must, since you’ll be negotiating tradeoffs between teams as well as keeping your own folks motivated. We’d love to hear from you if you’re a senior engineer who can prove you’ve been doing a manager’s job.
The Inside Skinny
Why you should quit your job right now and join this organization!
You’ll find meaningful work here helping physicians and other health professionals help others, plus you’ll get to keep doing the fun parts of an app build even as you flex your management muscles.
