And now we raise our cups to you and your ilk, UX Designers. You, who make it your life’s work to consider our needs in big ways and small; you, who puzzle and cipher and test and retest; you who empathize and sympathize and strategize and synthesize, all so that we might inhabit a world where things work smoothly and intuitively, a world in which we swear at our screens much less frequently, a world in which our blood pressure is within reason. Thank you for all you do. And now, as a way of expressing our gratitude, we bring you this choice gig, with one of the world’s very most successful publishing companies. You’ll be working your magic on a team of incredibly talented folks who happen to view the world the same way you do, and applying your skills on a variety of products and platforms and across the product cycle. Take, friend, and read, that you might walk your career road in great happiness.
Nitty Gritty
Pulling on what you know about UX methodologies and design best practices, you’ll be a key contributor to the creation of optional design solutions and user experiences on a real plethora of products on the real plethora of platforms and media that you’d expect from this very mature, very up-to-the-minute company. You’ll ply your noble trade at every step along the way, too — user research, user flows, wireframes, interactive prototypes, visual designs, development. You’ll collaborate so much that a lesser person’s collaborator would fall right off, and you’ll be called on to communicate your ideas and solutions, in writing and in person, on a constant basis.
Hired Gun Profile
Passion for user-centered design. That’s the main thing — you’ve got UX down in your bones. You love the challenge of creating designs that resonate with users, that eliminate barriers to use, that improve experiences in huge paradigm-shifting ways or in tiny, incremental ways. That passion is evident in your online portfolio, which is the fruit of the past three years of work in which you collaborated with teams deeply involved in graphic design, UX and/or visual design. Tech-wise, you’re a cinch: you have solid experience with Axure, Zeplin, Principle and/or Invision. And you’re a proficient user of web technologies like HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
For you, collaboration is not just a buzzword or something you’re dragged to, kicking and screaming — it’s the way you prefer to work, since you’ve seen again and again that your best work stems from dialogue and exchange with colleagues. Being that sort of person, communicating comes easily to you, as well: You’re perfectly comfortable sharing your thoughts with all manner of stakeholder, whether that’s standing over a colleague’s desk, emailing an internal client, writing a report, standing up in a formal meeting, or hunkering down with your team to hammer out a solution.
Inside Skinny
This employer cares a lot about your ability to assess and incorporate other people’s ideas. You might want to have a story or two along those lines at the ready.
