This new Hired Guns client, a media powerhouse and leader in the television space, is looking for a Vice President of Product who possesses a full 360-degree understanding of the business of online content to transform the company’s digital group into a product-centric organization and take their large network of sites to the whole new level of viewer engagement and synergy with their constellation of shows.
You are a seasoned Vice President of Product with experience working on properties whose audiences number in the millions. You are squarely on track to a GM role, thanks to your experience working synergistically with all functional areas of the business (i.e. Editorial Sales, Client Solutions, Product Marketing, Research, etc.) combined with your successful P&L accountability. Your extensive experience in effecting change, both operational and managerial, has made you a hot commodity. Best practices of an effective, growth-oriented product team are second nature to you, and you have earned your stripes in the areas of Social, Mobile and Video.
What’s more, your track record demonstrates your ability to grow businesses geometrically, because our client is looking for someone who has doubled or tripled numbers, not just raised them by a percent or two. Even more important, you know how to monetize the audiences you grow, and you have a strong background in analytics and optimization … the numbers speak to you, telling you how to pick the low-hanging fruit to get the most out of existing assets.
As VP, Product, you will oversee over a dozen web properties, ensuring that they have best-in-class user experience and deliver audiences in an advertising-friendly way. You will need to transform the company into a product-centered environment that will be both methodical and consistent about using best product management practices. Job One will be getting things up to standard. You will identify KPIs and put plans in place to achieve them, with the ultimate goal of maximizing the company’s return on investment. Because product managers and other stakeholders will rely on your judgment and look to you to set the pace for maximizing uniques, engagement, and visits, you will also need to be aces at managing a large group and encouraging collaboration both inside and outside your department. Innovation and future planning will be also be vital, as you work with business leaders at the company to plan a roadmap that keeps up with the trends as we rapidly continue down the path toward the convergence of digital and traditional media and the rise of social viewing.
This group is entering into a time of great change, and you will be a leading change agent. While this is a big task, know that you will have total senior-level management buy-in. More importantly, your direct manager has an incredible track record of removing obstacles and providing the support needed to achieve success.
