In the ancient tale of Oedipus the King, it is the blind prophet Tiresias who represents true courage. Sticking to the truth of one’s own augury against the fury of a king; this is how Tiresias earns his place in the pantheon of Greek Tragedy. All the time, we hear about Ancient Greek dramaturgy as a metaphor for ad product strategy. The parallels are obvious, and right now our client needs a Tiresias; a formidable, tenacious visionary who can decode the future of ad tech and steer their clients to greatness for the good of the commonwealth. Sound like you? Then read on.
Nitty Gritty
In this role, clients are going to come at you with their deepest ad product desires; their hopes and their dreams. It will be your job to not just make these dreams come true, but to supplant them with even bigger, better dreams, creating for them a brand new dream cineplex, the likes of which they never thought possible.
You will walk with the ad product team on a journey of discovery and innovation, creating specs so prescient and forthright that the development team will merely have to walk in a straight line in order to achieve ad product greatness. You will work closely with the measurement team to make sure that the wonder you’ve created is performing like a wonder should: wonderfully.
In the end, you will have created an ad product platform so cutting edge, so beautifully effective, that clients can’t help but come back for more. In fact, they won’t be able to stop themselves from telling everybody they know just how spellbindingly awesome your products performed. They will be awestruck, because you will have given them the future, and though they may have feared it at first, they came see that the results were transcendent.
Hired Gun Profile
To be honest, we get all tingly just thinking about the kind of gun that will rock this job. You are a true ad tech visionary with an exhaustive understanding of the perennially evolving ad tech landscape. Programmatic know how is a must, as you’ll need to be able to see the potential of current client’s assets and figure out what’s missing. Then you’ll need to identify which companies (partners, acquisitions, etc.) could help round out an extremely robust platform.
This is a dream gig for a strong veteran marketing leader with deep programmatic skills who has both vision and execution capabilities — someone who can build a new team focused on creating and delivering high performance ad products that exceed client expectations. Picture a Mission Impossible squad of experts in ad products, ad operations, data science, measurement and research, sharing responsibility for ad innovation, execution, operations and, more importantly, campaign performance.
And you? You’ve delivered high-performance products across multiple channels, from web, mobile and TV, to newer mediums like automobiles and wearables, VR and beyond. We can’t even imagine it, but you’re already there. You may have experience on the Ad Tech side but that likely comes from spending time in the trenches on the media side. Alternatively, you could hail from a ginormous spend brand side and be perfect for this role because you know just what needs to be built for your ecosystem.
You use both sides of your brain in tandem. The left side gives you the natural ability to ideate a novel and creative product and then sell it into the client, while the right side gives you that data-driven grit to define and ensure the product’s success. You’ve got a natural sense for good UX, strong leadership qualities and a keen sense for how to talk to clients.
Inside Skinny
If you’re super enticed by an opportunity where artificial intelligence will factor into your products, this gig will be for you.
Net-Net
After the ghostly body of Tiresias descended to the underworld, he was able to give Odysseus invaluable direction on how to complete his epic journey home. If you are looking to set yourself up for a lifetime of ad product prophecy and direction, you couldn’t ask for a better next chapter.
