The Hired Guns seek a Chief Product Officer to blaze the innovation trail at a content creation platform that easily turns users’ visions into stories. Come join a tight-knit team that’s all-in on a product that is defining the future of UI.
The Nitty Gritty
The backstory on the organization and why they need to hire you!
This creation platform/CMS leads their category in innovation, and they need a visionary Chief Product Officer to maximize its continued impact. The Chief Product Officer will think 18 months ahead and decide how future design will excite customers.
Your mission will be to expand the company’s footprint, adding net new customers while keeping a solid grip on the robust base. First, make the platform more accessible to existing clients. While that pot’s boiling, tailor offerings to small-to-medium-sized businesses beyond the enterprise accounts you already have. But wait! Farm the broadest base by authoring a freemium platform that can be used at the “prosumer” level.
All versions will need new features, functionalities, and pricing models, so you’ll confer with the Director of Product Management to implement a shared strategic vision.
The Quest
What success looks like in your first year…
- Step 1: Design an innovation roadmap for the next 12 months.
- Step 2: Work with the VP of Engineering and the Head of Product to create an implementation strategy. If your vision raises the company’s YoY growth by 70%, take a victory lap.
Why You?
How you’ll know if you’re a fit…
You know how to live simultaneously in the worlds of art and science, because this product needs to both function and inspire, appealing to its two core user types, “the design-curious marketer and the marketing-curious designer.”
And that’s a fit for you: an entrepreneurial yet pragmatic type who sees the market’s path to a design-based future. You prefer distributed teams for your business-oriented go-to-market strategy — independent types who will report to you when each mission is accomplished.
You’ve got your eye on a CEO spot one day, even if you’re just coming to Chief Product Officer now from a role as head of product or SVP/EVP of product. Bonus points if you have existing knowledge of the product market thanks to time at a content management system or content creation app, including e-mail blast distro services.
Tell Me About a Time When …
The interview questions you need to rock to score a “swipe right”…
- Describe how you’ve developed products in service of design and creativity.
- Detail a time you created a new product feature, leading to new revenue streams.
- Tell us how you’ve worked directly with leadership to define a long-term product roadmap and built up an organization to execute it.
The Inside Skinny
Why you should quit your job right now and join this organization!
This team works hard, plays hard, and then works even harder, so personality is a key criterion. This is a raucous den of can-do cheetahs sprinting toward their next objective. Employees build and improvise to create something totally new. Think of it like dueling pianos: a shared goal built on competition that spawns new and wonderful innovation.
