Here’s a chance for a talented Gun with broadcast and OTT experience to help an already innovative entertainment company reach new audiences over new platforms. It’s a senior, strategic — yet still hands-on — role that’ll have you overseeing product development and rollout, ensuring that the company’s content is being distributed over the very latest and greatest devices in the most efficient way possible. It’ll call on nearly every imaginable aspect of the broad background you bring to the table: web, native, ad tech, security, analytics — da works, we tell ya, da works.
Nitty Gritty
You’ll be running product management from top to bottom, with a great deal of executive autonomy, making decisions about everything from what the UX looks like on the website to how the apps are designed and even, on the strategic level, what product or platform will be rolled out next. You won’t have legions of dedicated full-time employees at your disposal (“lean” and “agile” are good descriptors of the overall process, not just proper nouns in this case); instead, you’ll muster a top-notch outsourced team that’s as sustainable and reliable as it is talented.
When it comes to rolling out strategy, you’ll partner with business managers to translate broad objectives into discrete and specific product roadmaps, and then you’ll team up with designers, editorial and content management pros to drive the product-development effort forward. Responsibility for maintaining efficient development cycles shall fall upon your capable shoulders, and you’ll get there by seeing to the timely and fruitful creation of user stories, technical requirement documentation and schedules. Occasionally, you’ll even have to do some troubleshooting of technical issues, platform infrastructure and code.
Hired Gun Profile
You’re a gifted all-arounder, as comfortable picking through code to see where it went amiss as you are talking with top execs and VIP stakeholders about how to extend the brand’s reach. You’ve had a sufficiently varied cluster of experience in this general area that you’re able to see the big picture (that is, to consider things from a business perspective, like whether your projected usage numbers amount to a proper return on investment) while jumping straight into the weeds to help figure out why ads are laggy on Platform X or an app keeps crashing on Platform Y. And not only are you capable of wearing both hats, but you honestly enjoy both kinds of work, and would hate to give one or the other of them up. Fortunately, your experience includes a decent bit of coding work, since you’ll be communicating constantly with the tech team and need to speak their language.
You truly enjoy managing people and relish the challenge of making the most of the resources you have. You communicate clearly and thrive on collaboration.
Inside Skinny
You down with OTT? Reason we ask is not just to embarrass ourselves with outdated hip hop references, but rather because the main deal-breaker here is going to be OTT/connected media device platform experience. Hate to say it, but that stuff is absolutely crucial for this role (Unless, of course, you’ve got it in spades, in which case we don’t hate to say it at all.).
Net Net
This is one of those open-ended gigs, the kind with unlimited long-term upside, where you’re able to use the work as a platform to realize your great potential. And it happens to be at a very cool company with a young and exciting target audience; all around, we sense great things for the firm and for the Gun who lands the gig.
