The Hired Guns are seeking a highly skilled, strategic UX thought leader to infuse design thinking across multiple teams (product, news team, head of editorial, tech, audience, digital) at one of the nation’s most famous news outlets as their new Director, User Experience and Strategy.
Salary range: $150,000 to $200,000 per year plus substantial bonus potential
- This role = Strategy + Change Agent + UX Experience + Thought Leadership + the ability to MENTOR cross-functional leaders + BONUS POINTS if you have Media experience

- Have a real strategic voice. This is a big Individual Contributor role to start, but you will soon be able to architect the team and environment you want to build from the ground up.

A multi-platform media company needs a Director, User Experience and Strategy to define, lead, and advocate for both short and long-term UX solutions. They’re looking for someone who’s comfortable being a close partner to the Editorial, Product, and Audience Development teams, as well as other internal stakeholders. In this role you will:
- Direct the UX design and strategy, championing best practices and industry-leading approaches
- Partner with key stakeholders to leverage analytics and data tools to shape UX decisions
- Lead UX research, competitive analysis, and user testing
- Play an integral role in building out an A/B testing practice, including identifying strong test cases and opportunities, creating hypotheses, designing test variations, and leveraging results to arrive at optimal solutions
- Collaborate closely with the product team to arrive at best-possible solutions throughout the design and development lifecycle
- Mentor and manage talent
- Maintain and expand design systems

To do this job right, you must be a self-starter who will be continuously focused on identifying UX/UI opportunities. You can nurture an environment of creative thinking, and you have superior experience leading UX design teams in a range of projects, spanning both UX and UI. Experience working with and developing design systems is a must. Perhaps you’ve managed multiple stakeholders and worked with cross functional teams in a very collaborative and fast-paced environment. It is also helpful to have previous experience within a media company or have a demonstrated interest in storytelling.
