Up until now, marketing has consisted largely of social and content, spearheaded by the founder and the CEO. They know that now, when they’re committed to 2x growth year-on-year, they need to level up their marketing capability. And yes, you guessed it, that’s where you, their first Head of Growth and Performance Marketing, come in.
You’ll have the singular challenge and opportunity of assembling your own superhero team of marketers (because you’re smart enough to know that if you try to do it all yourself, you’ll never make it). In doing so, you’ll bring structure and data awareness to marketing operations, balancing a spirit of irrepressible creativity with a solid connection to financial, sales, and product objectives.
Your job is to provide the top-level strategic brain that ties the whole spectrum of marketing activities together, leading from the front while avoiding the inevitable temptation to be too in-the-weeds. You’ll lead the development of the marketing calendar, establish quarterly forecasting, build data-gathering and reporting mechanisms, and oversee the work of your team to ensure flawless execution of all online and offline programs.
How you’ll know if you’re a fit…
You’ve got 7 or more years of performance marketing experience and are currently at or above the senior marketing manager level. Key to differentiating yourself is that you’ve got a compelling “growth story”: we want to hear how you yourself have contributed directly and meaningfully to significant growth in customer base and revenue for innovative or iconoclastic direct-to-consumer products.
We’re looking for a marketing leader who has a grip on the whole marketing mix and can direct all the components, online and offline, but we’re open to a bunch of possible pedigrees: performance marketing, content marketing, or growth marketing career tracks could all be fantastic training grounds.
You’ve got meaningful management experience (if you’ve never had at least five direct reports, this might not be for you). You’re a charismatic story-teller who nonetheless keeps a close eye on data-driven reality. You’ve got start-up experience and a drive to grow your brand even if it means coloring outside the lines. Last but not least, you’ve got a sense of humor, a touch of irreverence, and a flair for the unconventional.
