Head of Audience Strategy & Growth Wanted at Social Justice Organization
Salary range: $110,000 to $140,000 per year plus excellent benefits
Are You the Missing Piece?
What if your audience-growth expertise could do more than rack up followers? This organization uses storytelling, culture, and influence to help transform America’s justice system, and they’re looking for *the person* who can ensure those stories reach the people who need to see them.
The non-profit you’ll be joining operates at the intersection of social impact, sports, entertainment, culture and advocacy, with an extraordinary network of athletes, entertainers, business leaders and cultural voices in its orbit. Now, with a new Head of Content and an ambitious growth agenda, they’re building a social-first and analytics-forward audience development team to match. We have been told that this is one of their most urgent and important hires this year.
And that’s where you come in: You know what makes people stop scrolling, why one piece of content takes off while another disappears, and how to turn attention into action. And you know how to use analytics to test and drive engagement.
As Director of Audience Strategy & Growth, you’ll build the cross-platform growth engine from the ground up, connecting great storytelling to bigger audiences, stronger engagement, and measurable real-world impact. If this sounds like the 2026 job you’ve been waiting for, please keep reading.
What’s it going to take to score an interview?
- You’re a builder, not an optimizer. You’ve launched, scaled, or created something rather than simply inheriting an enormous audience and maintaining it. In this interview process, you’ll be asked to point to a channel, property or audience you personally scaled from X to Y.
- You can hold your own in the room where it happens. You’re comfortable presenting strategy and insights to senior leadership, cross-functional partners, and the board.
- You’re genuinely social-first. Deep knowledge of Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube and emerging platforms is a must + an instinct for formats, hooks, packaging, timing, trends and distribution.
- You understand audience behavior. You don’t just report impressions; you use analytics to figure out what people are doing, why they’re doing it, and what to change next.
- You connect content to growth. You know how to turn a viral moment into followers, email subscribers, members, petition signatures, event attendees, and an activated, owned audience. In fact, while social is crucial, experience driving subscription growth is also critical to this hire.
- You’re partnership-oriented. You’ve got a proven track record working with a wide spectrum of talent: celebrities, athletes, politicians, creators, influencers, and you know how to build smart, mutually beneficial relationships that unlock reach for all entities.
- You’re culturally fluent. You know how to spot a moment, move quickly, and figure out how a story should live differently across platforms.
- You understand how to amplify across owned, earned and paid media. The new Head of Content will be charged with content creation, while you’ll partner with them to drive amplification. Paid is a part of the equation in this role, but year one will be largely about growing organic traffic.
- You can get into the weeds. You’re strategic, but you’re not so far removed from execution that you can’t roll up your sleeves. This matters because in the early days you’ll have a fairly lean team. So you have to be cool with DIYing the work.
- Data & Analytics Fluency. This organization does have a data team. However, it will be your job to synthesize that data as you evolve your strategy, measure the results and report to the board. If you’ve built your own dashboards to measure results – even better.
You should take this meeting because …
This is a chance to build the audience-growth function, not simply inherit one. You’ll own the playbook: audience strategy, platform best practices, KPIs, analytics, growth initiatives, and the big-picture question of what success looks like. You’ll work alongside a new Head of Content to ensure powerful storytelling gets the distribution it deserves, while bringing the audience-growth instincts of sports, media, entertainment, music, or news to a mission where growth is more than a KPI; it’s a lever for change. You’ll have high visibility, real ownership and the opportunity to work with the executive team and an impressive network of athletes, entertainers, politicians, creators, and cultural leaders. Instead of simply chasing the next viral post, you’ll get to answer the much more interesting question: What happens when you turn attention into action? Yes, it’s as good as it sounds.
