The Hired Guns are seeking a Head of Product Design for a WYSIWYG SaaS platform that’s revolutionizing how content is created.
The Nitty Gritty
The backstory on the organization and why they need to hire you!
This startup has an all-in mentality, and the commitment of its team has grown a user base that raves about its facile, flexible features that help creators build almost anything on the web with ease.
The Head of Product Design will marry the “art and science” of the company’s content creation platform, creating intuitive solutions that appeal to its user base of designers and the design-curious. Day One, you’ll wade into the weeds of the existing product to sift needs from nice-to-haves. That optimization work will free up company leadership for more strategic activities as your purview grows.
You’ll work in tandem with product owners to paint the big picture for the next iteration of this one-of-a-kind tool that turns weeks of product dev into days. Making agile decisions in order to move the product forward, your guiding light is the product’s biggest strength: its open-endedness. You’ll preserve what it does (that makes it so beloved) even as you break the paradigm to create features that have never been done.
The Quest
What success looks like in your first year…
Progress is more of a tapestry than a procedure here. You’ll be building a team to formalize an internal design structure even as you begin your mastery of the existing product with an eye on maintenance and optimization. On both counts you’ll establish a firm strategy with product leadership to innovate internally and on the product release.
Why You?
How you’ll know if you’re a fit…
You’re not a jack of all trades, but a master of one or two who can converse with the experts working under your direction. You love building and designing products and have been lucky enough to stick with previous employers for the long haul — possibly through the paces of product design manager, director of product design, and maybe all the way up to VP of product design.
You’re proud of your expertise designing for SaaS B2B customers in the creative space — particularly web design, graphic design, and video. But you never stop relying on end-user feedback, building your precise information architecture from research and data. These are the values you’ve conveyed to other teams you’ve managed: no matter how beautiful the aesthetic, form flows from function.
Tell Me About a Time When …
The interview questions you need to rock to score a “swipe right”…
- This role requires a head of design that makes data-driven decisions. Describe a scenario where you used user research to drive innovation.
- Describe your management style and your process for building and mentoring a team.
- Describe an instance in which you had to advocate for strategies in conversations with stakeholders.
The Inside Skinny
Why you should quit your job right now and join this organization!
This role will find its soulmate when we interview a candidate who’s excited about designing technology where the use cases are unknown…because the designers who use the tech are unlocking creative potential to innovate them daily.
