The Hired Guns are seeking an impactful storyteller with a cross-cultural mindset to be the Lead Social Video Producer-Editor at a world-renowned non-profit that’s advancing medical research and saving lives through innovative treatments around the planet. There are perks aplenty, including global travel and 6 weeks of paid vacation.
The Nitty Gritty
The backstory on the organization and why they need to hire you!
This global non-profit is working hard to eradicate diseases around the world. To help them spread awareness and further their cause, they’re investing in the creation of award-winning video content and graphics that can be amplified through social media.. And that’s where you come in: they’re looking for a dynamic, culturally-minded, multi-faceted Lead Social Video Producer-Editor hybrid to create, produce and edit impactful social video content for global audiences across multiple platforms.
In this role, you will produce compelling, human-focused content for all digital channels in close collaboration with colleagues around the world. Content will stem from this NGO’s research milestones, news hooks, communications strategies, ad-hoc campaigns, and an in-house calendar of content intended to drive national and global audience engagement. You will be tasked with proactively carrying out all stages of content production, from conception and brainstorming to script writing, producing, editing, and dissemination. In addition you will create graphics that live on social, and you will also be responsible for updating and maintaining the digital asset database. Note, this role requires a highly positive attitude, attention to detail, consistency, proactiveness, and a good, persistent, collaborative approach to chase down information from colleagues around the world.
While this role is primarily focused on directing shoots from afar and editing to create compelling short-form, social-friendly video, you’ll also participate in (and sometimes even direct) the occasional shoot. This role will require global travel (think Africa, Europe, the Middle East), and you get six weeks paid vacation! You read that right … six weeks paid time off. Plus, they’re initiating monthly mental-health days for all employees come September. So, if you’re looking for a cross-cultural role within an incredibly dynamic and talented team in which your work has global human impact, then this is the gig for you.
Why You?
How you’ll know if you’re a fit…
The ideal candidate has 3+ years of experience, starting out in news media and then having made the jump to corporate storytelling on the brand side. If you’re already working in non-profit or education, that’s great, but we’d be just as interested if you’re in journalism or a related field but have a strong desire to make a change … and a difference!
Your filmmaking matters, of course, so prepare to show us your best social videos. But you also need to demonstrate that you’re a good fit for a non-profit organization that is committed to saving lives through its focus on humanitarian issues and its commitment to global health equity. You’re as curious and creative as they get. You crave global travel, thrive in full-blown culture immersion, and you’ll jump at the chance to travel to multiple continents doing work that you love. You have a real passion for storytelling, i.e., you live to create, produce, edit, and distribute compelling short-form video content that will change the social fabric of this world.
You have excellent design skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Audition) and deep knowledge of photography and video production. You must have graphic design chops, too. You can think about social video production from the lens of multicultural audiences, and you’re not afraid to dig into (and suggest) how to enhance performance. Creative story-telling and short-form video production skills and experience are a must. You must have the ability to take initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines. You’re able to work remotely and independently across multiple time zones. You need to have extremely good communication skills, as you’ll be operating on many levels with diverse multicultural and multilingual environments. Proficiency in a language other than English is a huge plus – French, Spanish, and Portuguese are extremely desirable; Swahili, Arabic, and German are welcome.
