The Hired Guns are seeking a customer-centric Principal Product Manager to help transform the Homepage and Site Navigation experience at an iconic retailer that has risen to become a top-ten leader in the e-commerce space.
The Nitty Gritty
The backstory on the company and why they need to hire you!
As Principal Product Manager on this team you will own all site navigation and homepage functions, including personalization. Using machine learning and artificial intelligence, you’ll take on the task of rethinking how to structure the platform’s internal product catalog based on previous browsing history and enhanced homepage and site functions. You’ll take a highly sophisticated approach to knowledge architecture to level up product discovery dramatically. You will be responsible for surveying and understanding the current backend systems and information structure and updating them to provide an end-user experience that is personalized and delightful. Simultaneously, you’ll be planning the evolution to a new platform with cleaner and better-structured data that will allow easier and more sophisticated manipulation that benefits the customer’s product homepage, site nav, and overall search experience. Plus, you’ll work closely with stakeholders across merchandising, finance, marketing, enterprise technology, and other teams within product management to build and execute the long-term roadmap that makes the new search and browsing architecture a reality. This role includes some personalization too; if this sounds like the kind of product role you’ve been looking for, read on!
Why You?
How you’ll know if you’re a fit…
This job is no joke: it’s an intense and highly specialized role. You’re part principal product manager and part data scientist, with a history of owning algorithms and data for a large consumer-focused company. You have knowledge of machine learning, and you know how to drive strategy, roadmap, metrics, and execution. You’ve got a solid 8+ years of product management experience, during which you’ve wrestled with search, browser history, cataloging, tagging, schema creation — you get the idea. You have a strong strategic background, either driving an enterprise roadmap or as a founder with that experience. Consulting background is great too, but you need to have strong product-management chops. You’re a strong collaborator with experience working in matrixed orgs, and you’re also a self-starter with the ability to influence change without formal authority. You’re an excellent communicator and presenter who excels at working with cross-functional collaborators as well as outside product and tech vendors. You’re really interested in AI and machine learning and excited about algorithmic discovery. You’re customer-obsessed, but also interested in backend systems and data. This role also has a personalization component – added plus if you’ve worked with search and personalization!
The Inside Skinny
