The Hired Guns are seeking a Product Manager to run the subscription video on demand (SVOD) business for our client, a highly prestigious performing arts organization. If you’ve earned your stripes overseeing streaming video implementations with a subscription or other transactional business model, then you’re the product manager we need. (And if you love the performing arts and are looking to align your career with your passion, that’s a huge plus.)
Nitty Gritty
In this Product Manager role, you’ll be the product owner in a very real way! You’ll be the highly independent and autonomous lead on the premier SVOD product in the performing arts space, delivering exceptional content that’s available nowhere else. Core responsibilities are overall product and project management for the web as well as apps running on all of the major OTT platforms, roadmapping and prioritizing the future evolution of the product. The technology is built by outside partners that provide the video platform, transaction and CRM capabilities, and overall site development. But if they’re the orchestra, you’re the conductor, setting the direction, generating ideas, and challenging them to push the envelope of streaming video technology to deliver an audience experience that truly does justice to the amazing original performances!
So far so good, but here’s where it gets really interesting: we need someone who can own the business side of the product, too, looking for opportunities to grow the market by seeking partnerships, identifying new audiences, and improving conversion. Finally, you’ll be managing the financial planning and budgeting for the product, doing data analysis, handling contracts and vendor relationships. And you’ll have major visibility with senior leadership. It’s a big job, but you’re up to it!
Hired Gun Profile
To land this role, you must be an experienced product manager with SVOD / OTT chops who’s used to wearing a lot of hats. It’s strongly preferred if you’ve worked on products with a paid business model (subscription, paid app, and/or in-app purchases), ideally in entertainment or the performing arts. Big bonus points if you can demonstrate how your ideas had a direct impact on building audience. You’re a superb project manager as well, who will bring your knowledge of Agile methodologies and workflows, financial planning and budgeting.
You’re a consummate collaborator, skilled in stakeholder management at all levels. You’ll be the technology evangelist and educator to the organization at large, so you’ll need to know your stuff inside and out and be able to communicate issues and opportunities to your non-technical colleagues without arrogance or impatience.
Your career vision includes a general manager spot in the not-too-distant future, so whatever roles you’ve held, you’ve made a point of learning adjacent jobs and functions too. You’re an integrator, a multi-functional thinker, whose ambition is to actually build a business and see it grow. Maybe you’re working in a company where you’re always bumping up against other people in getting your ideas implemented. In your next job, you’re looking for an opportunity to really take the reins. Now’s your chance!
Inside Skinny
In this prestigious institution, it’s a big plus if you have a passion for the performing arts. Also, if you’re working in business analysis or technical product management, we are definitely open to speaking with you. This is the kind of position where you’ll never stop learning, where you’ll want to stay for the long term and build something amazing!
Net Net
You want to leverage your product-management expertise into a true business leadership role, to write your very own success story, working with leading-edge tech and operating with incredible autonomy, to build a track record in a fraction of the time it would take to work your way up in a giant tech company. You’re looking for a role you can be passionate about, where you’re not just a cog in a big machine, but the person steering the ship.
