The Hired Guns are seeking a passionate defender of democracy for a Senior Digital Strategist, Social Media role at a fast-paced non-profit, where you’ll drive growth in reach and engagement on Twitter and Facebook.
You’ll be editing — and at times crafting — political and policy content that will reach millions of concerned Americans with the goal of driving them to take action . If you’re committed to combating corruption, advocating for democracy, getting money out of politics and getting voters into voting booths, prepare to be inspired by working alongside these watchdogs who aren’t just sitting on the sidelines, but mobilizing over two million progressive Americans to fight against Trump’s corrupt agenda and promote democracy.
Nitty Gritty
This digital-first not-for-profit is hitting big numbers with its grassroots activism to give the people back their voice in Washington. It’s all thanks to a huge network of quick-mobilizing progressives, and social media is one of its key tools to get people on the phone and in the streets. Think of it as a blend between a progressive nonprofit and a political campaign.
Helming a team of social strategists for both organic and paid campaigns, you’ll expand the reach even further than its two million strong members — while shoring up the commitment of the existing audience. You’ll connect breaking news to concrete opportunities for action and create original content that educates your audience and motivates them to pick up the phone, hit the street, and retweet. You’ll also have a response plan for opportunistic surges as they arise, such as trending tags, real-world developments, and interactions with big-figure profiles on the social media scene. You’ll oversee the paid media campaign–mostly through Facebook–to keep CPA’s low and acquisitions high, helping your ads strategist come up with new hooks for content and experiment with new audiences to activate.
Hours are typically normal work days–it’s like the dream of working on a campaign but without the nightmare of the hours–but be ready to act on breaking news outside of office hours when necessary.
What Success Looks Like
This place is all about rapid-response social, and you’ll have engagement metrics to show that what you’re doing is effective — but also the more qualitative actions resulting from your efforts. Ten thousand retweets is nice, but one thousand calls to Congress is better. And five thousand new members this week is superb.
Hired Gun Profile
You’re a 21st-century soothsayer, igniting the social landscape with perfectly progressive indictments of the system’s need for change. Your posts inspire people to reach for a better world with their actions and their votes. Your leadership at home inspires your team and coworkers in the office to give every push their best effort, because even little campaigns have big impact cumulatively.
You’ve got some feathers in your cap by now, and can even take credit for a trending hashtag or six — and not just anecdotally. You can use analytics tools to deftly prove your tactics’ efficacy, even as they help craft strategies that optimized a political or not-for-profit campaign. You’re a hero when it comes to boosting event attendance. You understand the value of a thoughtful acquisition ad.
