This independent media platform broadcasts live daily news content for global consumption: a mighty undertaking in these dark ages. To keep independent media alive and well, they’re looking for a Senior Manager of Technology with experience in broadcast engineering to join them in furthering the next chapter of their mission.
In this role, you will lead the strategic vision and execution for broadcast engineering, internal tools, and web/mobile application development. This role requires a balance of technical expertise, leadership, and project management skills to oversee a diverse team of systems administrators, archivists, and developers. This role is ideal for a dynamic technical leader who can bridge the gap between broadcast technology and modern software development while driving innovation across an organization.
What’s it going to take to score an interview?
- You have real-world technical leadership experience at left-leaning non-profit and/or media companies: You have extensive experience overseeing the design, development, and maintenance of broadcast engineering systems, internal tools, and web/mobile applications in a left-leaning nonprofit or media environment. You’ve led technical teams working with technologies like Drupal, Ruby on Rails, React Native, Linux IT systems, and cloud-based solutions. You’re skilled at troubleshooting complex systems issues across broadcast and IT environments and have successfully implemented new software development practices to enhance efficiency.
- You’re a strategic thinker who thrives in leadership roles: You know how to develop technology strategies that align with organizational goals for broadcast operations and digital platforms. You’re skilled at assessing vendors, negotiating contracts, and ensuring cost-effective, high-quality services. Your high EQ makes you a pro at leading change-management initiatives and driving adoption of new technologies.
- Mission-driven work is important to you: You understand the impact of strong broadcast technology and IT infrastructure on an organization’s ability to reach its audience. You’re passionate about optimizing workflows, staying ahead of industry trends, and fostering a culture of innovation within your team that will have a ripple effect on the company at large.
- You’ve got this non-negotiable tech stack: You bring deep expertise in Drupal, Ruby on Rails, React Native, Linux systems, cloud technologies, and CRM platforms like CiviCRM. Plus, you have a strong understanding of broadcast engineering principles and modern software development practices. Experience managing mail administration, document management, calendar systems, and cloud file management is a must.
- You work autonomously and don’t need a lot of handholding: You’re comfortable making independent decisions and you can manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and ensure timely delivery without constant oversight.
- Huge advantage if you have these preferred skills: Early career experience as a Systems Administrator or Software Developer is a big plus. A background in broadcast engineering or networking technology will set you apart—especially if it’s complemented by broader technical skills.
