The Hired Guns are building out a growth-oriented multi-functional team for a major e-commerce player that needs a Senior Director, Product Management, E-Commerce Site Experience who can own, innovate, and scale a multi-billion-dollar e-commerce business.
The Quest
What success looks like in your first year…
Our client, a Fortune 500 company, not only has a tremendously successful e-commerce operation, but also a distinctive retail experience and a devout customer base. That’s rare. And that’s where the opportunity sits for you to become their Senior Director, Product Management, E-Commerce Site Experience. That means you get to play in a huge, intriguing sandbox where even small innovations can result in seismic shifts in revenue.
The challenge before you comes only once or twice in a career. The keys to success are your digital and retail industry experience, strong leadership abilities, coaching and team development, innovation, and experience running a dynamic business.
This digital business is already running at full steam (we’re talking one of the top retailers on the web/mobile across many categories). That’s why we need someone highly capable and astute, who has successfully innovated within a well-scaled e-commerce company and has the passion to drive the future of retail to the next place.
The Nitty Gritty
The backstory on the organization and why they need to hire you!
Let’s start here: if you land this role, there is a clear path to the Chief Experience Officer (CXO) or Chief Product Officer (CPO) jobs down the line. This is an important, high-visibility role that comes with exposure and interaction with the operating committee and the board of directors.
Reporting to the Chief Digital Officer, your mission will be to create a higher-order shopping experience informed by your positive impact on other elite e-comm companies throughout your career. While pedigree gets you in the door, your unique point of view, entrepreneurial mindset, and drive for learning will get you hired. That and your ability to nurture a design thinking and agile approach throughout your team and the entire company.
You’ll oversee product strategy, building out your own team that drives monetization, personalization, search, browsing, and marketing. You’ll own the “voice of the customer” and ensure an exceptional end-to-end shopping experience. You’ll champion strategic priorities, roadmaps, deadlines, and deliverables with gusto (all from a data- and user-experience-driven approach).
Ideally, you’ve earned your stripes as a discovery, personalization, and search expert along the way. Your most recent work experience has been for an e-commerce giant with a massive set of SKUs. You’re gifted at finding white space around the problem sets related to deep volumes of users, products, and categories — and have a passion for leveling up everything from product detail pages to the checkout experience.
When it comes to building your product org, you can spot talented practitioners for quality, fit and ideas, while ensuring that you don’t have a team full of cookie-cutter clones. This diverse approach has helped you find solutions that escape more conventional leaders.
The Inside Skinny
Why you should quit your job right now and join this organization!
Remember Ocean’s 11? That’s this moment. As a key leader in this initiative, you get to handpick your dream team from scratch. How often does that happen outside a start-up?
Our client has an astounding commitment to inclusivity. It’s the kind of devotion to diversity that you often hear talked about but rarely see executed. That means you’ll get to assemble a wonderfully diverse product team — no questions asked, except: will they help us move the needle?
