The Hired Guns are seeking a Senior Product Manager, Search to join a brand-new product team that’s rethinking the retail e-commerce experience from the ground up for a giant in both e-commerce and brick-and-mortar retailing. Come to the party packing solid experience optimizing product search and creating a robust product catalog at several innovative companies, along with your own creative ideas about how to make search and discovery the backbone of the online shopping experience.
The Nitty Gritty
The backstory on the organization and why they need to hire you!
As Senior Product Manager on the search team owning the Product Catalog, you’ll take on the task of rethinking how to structure the internal product catalog, taking a highly sophisticated approach to knowledge architecture to level up product discovery dramatically. Your starting point, of course, will be surveying and understanding the current backend systems and information structure and updating them to meet current business needs. But at the same time, you’ll be planning the evolution to a new structure with cleaner and better-structured data that will allow easier and more sophisticated manipulation that benefits the customer’s product search experience.
From there, you’ll take the lead in working closely with business and corporate systems and the functional teams that own them (merchandising, finance, marketing, enterprise technology) to build and execute the long-term roadmap that makes the new search and catalog architecture a reality.
Why You?
How you’ll know if you’re a fit…
Just in case you haven’t picked up on it yet, this is a hard-core, highly specialized job. You’re part product manager, part data scientist with specific experience and education in information architecture, information theory, or library science. You’ve got a solid 4 or 5 years of product management experience where you’ve wrestled with search, cataloging, tagging, schema creation, you get the idea. On top of that, you’ve got exposure to the fashion, retail, or e-commerce space that has given you solid intuition into how theory relates to the reality of apparel products and other relevant product categories. You’re an excellent communicator and presenter who thrives at working with cross-functional collaborators as well as outside product and tech vendors.
The Inside Skinny
Why you should quit your job right now and join this organization!
Remember the last time a science-head product manager like you was put in charge of a long-term rearchitecting moonshot of a project, with management who understands its importance while fully respecting and deferring to your special expertise? Yeah, me neither.
