The Hired Guns are seeking a challenge-loving Senior SEO Manager to lead and shape the brand-new team of an Education Tech start-up launched by a colossal brand.
Nitty Gritty
Massive site, small team, strong results: the unique demands of these SEO duties marry the innovation of a startup with the reliability of a publicly traded company. You’ll tread heavily in the brand footprint, building up the site’s reputation as the first and best go-to for the resources it offers. As Senior SEO Manager, move all your engines to overtake established ecommerce competitors in the same space. Long-tail organic searches are the stones to slay those Goliaths, so you’ll need to build more thoughtful SEO than the average click.
Around that goal, you’ll plan a detailed site-restructuring strategy whose checkpoints include SEO reviews, server-load tests, site indexing, calls, and auditing. Product and Tech teams are ready and eager to turn your road map into road miles where a lot of converting traffic is desirable.
What Success Looks Like
In the short term, turbo-juicing the site’s profile, traffic and performance. But “once the SEO health is robust, we want to shift efforts into framing content strategy.”
Hired Gun Profile
You’re a thought leader with an experimental bent and long-tail content SEO experience. You’ve got a lot of room to experiment here, and a lot of ideas to do it with. SEO has been your passion even before receiving your BA/BS in business, marketing, communications, computer science… you get the picture. Your on-page optimization is itself optimal, and while you’re dextrous with links, you’d never abuse your powers to get the easy numbers at the cost of the sterling brand rep you’re polishing up.
There isn’t a Google SEO tool outside your arsenal: Analytics, Tag Manager, Search Console, Trends, PageSpeed Insights, you’ve got ‘em in hand. Beyond that, you’re a maestro of Moz, Majestic, and any other keyword research tools you prefer. (You can design any software process you’re comfortable with, and they’ll get it for you.) But you never stop looking for the new and incredible new breakthroughs in the market. A little HTML or CSS isn’t beyond you, and JIRA experience is a must to mobilize on day one and pull this off.
Inside Skinny
While “an ecommerce background is a huge boost, it’s not required.” What is necessary is experience doing in-house SEO for sites with hundreds of thousands to millions of pages. The bigger the infrastructure, the more qualified you are for this gig.
Net-Net
This site map is planet-sized, and it’s your job to write the effusive tourism guide to it. You’ve got all the freedom of a new venture, but all the resources of an industry giant.
