The Hired Guns are seeking a Yield and Optimization Analyst with a high EQ for a world-spanning syndicate whose multimedia holdings include some of the biggest names in newspapers, radio, and book publishing. This role will start out on a contract basis, with conversion to fulltime hire if you nail it!
The Nitty Gritty
The backstory on the organization and why they need to hire you!
Come take the reins of a proprietary ad platform that bundles up all ad yield and optimization resources into a single solution resource. As the Yield and Optimization Analyst, you’ll report on the best moves to make for maximum revenue from minimally intrusive ads that enhance the reader experience. The global inventory is huge, and you’ve got the data science tools to innovate them into a new system of competitively but profitably priced ads.
Compiling stat models through quantitative analysis, you’ll run multivariate tests to demonstrate the best course of action for pulling pennies out of ad units again and again and again. This is a highly collaborative team, and you’re pulling results out of billions of rows of data, so you’ll have very statistically significant findings to translate from Applied Stats-speak into Coworker-ese.
The Quest
What success looks like in your first year…
This is “a high-profile role on a high-profile team” and it’ll flop if you don’t arrive with an innate, “solid understanding of the ad tech ecosystem from the publisher side.” You’re not just enacting policy; you need to be the gold miner who pans up ideas on your own for how to increase the yield. You haven’t done your job unless profits rise in a replicable way.
Why You?
How you’ll know if you’re a fit…
A balanced brain is essential: your left brain drives confidently with analytical skills born of a strong applied math background at a large data publishing company. Your right brain is very emotionally intelligent, and can represent Lefty’s findings across numerous departments in programmatic accounts and corporate. Since collaboration is key, you need to be a for-real team player who can represent your department to the rest of the team.
You’re fairly junior, but you’ve worked on a yield management platform or a lone SSP before, or at the very least a DSP…ideally all of these, and the DMP that ties them up. Your quantitative and creative skills combine to make you the ideal problem solver, using applied math, physics, computer science, behavioral economics, or a similar background to turn information into meaningful, actionable plans. Your SQL chops — both tools and languages — are a given, because yield management has a steep learning curve, and you play around with some Python and R when you have the time.
Inside Skinny
Putting all that social creativity to use in a structured data environment will get you the job. If you can create gorgeous and manifest data visualizations, you can be the technomancer who gives it all meaning to the rest of this outfit.
Net-Net
It’s a high-stakes, high-yield, high-pressure gig at one of the largest media companies in the world’s digital-first frontier. You’ve got backbone, grit, and itchy fingers for that HUGE data set, so you can really open it up and extract its findings.
