The Hired Guns are seeking a passionate User Experience Researcher to support the core UX team at one of the most sought-after global technology companies. This full-time freelance opportunity will start out remotely, then post-COVID will move on-site in NYC, Austin, the Bay Area, Seattle, or Munich, Germany.
The Nitty Gritty
The backstory on the organization and why they need to hire you!
This organization—a leader in the fields of UX and research—is building a brand new UX Research team devoted to collecting user feedback for new application and feature development and updates. As a User Experience Researcher, you’ll work alongside designers and engineers, helping them create internal-facing applications and tools for over 200,000 employees. (If history is any guide, some of these projects may later become globally-used external applications!)
You’ll master the balance of providing rapid research with supporting ongoing core foundational work, while easily pivoting from project to project and keeping several initiatives in the air at once. (Let’s just say “multi-tasker” is an understatement.)
Why You?
How you’ll know if you’re a fit…
You’re someone who works collaboratively and cross-functionally with designers, product managers and engineers. Along with speed, you have a deep knowledge of accessibility and strong familiarity with heuristics, prototype evaluation, and assumption mapping.
You have at least one year of usability study experience at a large technology brand and a track record of delivering clear research insights. Having reported to various stakeholders (engineering, product managers, designers), you’re comfortable managing projects and working on a lean, agile team. You’re totally confident with presenting to business stakeholders and audiences who are less versed in user research.
A focus on DEI (diversity, equity, inclusion) is core to your research approach, and you always keep accessibility in mind. In your current role, you are moderating or designing end-to-end research. Bonus if you have a background in anthropology, human-centered design, psychology, cognition, or sociology.
The Inside Skinny
Why you should quit your job right now and join this organization!
Looking to add a heavy-hitting company to your resume that can unlock your future opportunities in the tech space? This is it. You will never be bored working as a UX Researcher at this omnipresent brand. You’ll have resources aplenty (including the backing of a super-talented team) and limitless opportunities for growth. While you’ll be well supported, the role is relatively self-managed. As a member of a new team within a highly-coveted company, you will have an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of new research initiatives.
